I was brave enough last week to agree to take my mom to the store to pick up a few things. Getting her and little man ready and out of the house is a ton of work to do by yourself. She can't walk very well and is super clumsy so you have to have both hands free to guide her around and prevent accidents. Luckily, I can usually wear Jackson in a baby carrier and let mom push the cart to steady herself.
It was all going surprisingly well, I could see the registers in the distance! Then little man decided he was sick of being stuck on mama. I pulled a Hail Mary out of the parenting playbook, a last resort to help us finish checking out. I grabbed a little stuffed dog off the shelf and successfully stopped the shrieks.
I was pretty impressed with myself as we began walking out of the doors. That is, until the security scanner started beeping indicating that something had not been paid for. I immediately looked at my mother wondering if she had grabbed something unintentionally. The employee chuckled and pointed to the culprit strapped to my chest.
My son, the shoplifter, and his spoils (which of course I immediately paid for after realizing I couldn't crawl into a hole and die of embarrassment.) He looks pretty proud of himself, doesn't he?

That is too funny! What a cute picture of the two of you :)
ReplyDeleteI have found myself having to go back into stores, businesses, etc to return knick-knacks or toys my son thought he should take home.
I like the picture too. It was a few hours after the incident and I had cooled offz
DeleteThat's hilarious! My son did this too when he was smaller. We were shopping at Whole Foods and he was quietly sitting in the cart, which made me happy. As we were walking out I noticed a large orange under his leg. He was playing with it like a ball! I ran back inside and attempted to pay for it, but the store manager said he was so adorable, he could just keep it!
ReplyDeleteHow cute! He just thought it was a ball!
DeleteI was the dummy who gave the kid a toy...
Whoops! It happens to the best of us sometimes. My daughter has done it a couple times and we always make her bring it back. But she's older than your son is. Which carrier do you use? I prefer the Ergo myself.
ReplyDeleteI've never tried an Ergo though I would love too. We have a Boba 3G and it was the best money I've ever spent. J loved the Moby wrap as a baby but quickly outgrew it.
DeleteI couldn't survive without a baby carrier. We have two 70 lb dogs and it's the ony way Ivan let them out to potty.
Just blame it on Mommy brain. It's a fail-safe excuse every single time!
ReplyDeleteBut the little shoplifter sure does look super cute!!
He was pretty excited about the new toy he managed to get out of the deal.
